Why do you think E.W. Scripps, and Scripps Networks split apart last year?  It is evident that print is a dying media.  Why would I pay for a newspaper, when I can go online and read the stories right there?  Plus, radio and TV newscasts offer the same stories for free.

If a newspaper is run efficiently and is not way over staffed, I think it could survive for the long term.  I read about every page of the KNS on a daily basis and it's a lot easier and faster for me to read a paper copy than to scan through an electronic copy.  If I was only interested in UT sports, I agree with you it would be best to go online.

I disagree that radio and TV newscasts offer the same stories.  Now that "The Voice" is off the air, I don't know of any radio station that covers local issues (I don't cont HHH) other than sports.  The local TV newscasts concentrate on a couple of local stories but IMO spend too much of their time on the weather.  They frequently open with the weather, go to some news, provide numerous charts regarding the weather, have a couple of minutes of sports and maybe have a recap of the weather.

Even with the financial troubles, the KNS opted to send Adams, Strange and Griffith to Lexington to cover the UT at Lexington.  Why do they need 3 reporters to cover a game that was televised?

I've noticed in the past week that Adams has been providing most of the coverage of the UT men's basketball team.  He and Griffith went to Gainesville and Strange stayed home to cover the Lady Vols.  I hope this switch isn't permanent.

Bama Nation have you compared knoxnews.com and wbir.com?

Same here.  I guarantee you I can whip through the paper and basically scan everything a hell of a lot quicker than you can on the net.  Plus, I can do it anytime, anywhere, for as short of period of time as I want...like sitting at a redlight, or waiting downstairs for my wife to come on.  The net it great for checking out papers from other areas, but I can't see me ever getting away from the local printed copy.

IMO the WBIR site is very user friendly and updated more than the KNS site......

It's time we face it, everybody (well, most everybody) wants their stuff for free and then wonders why nobody has a job.

Interesting...I see in the KNS that Jay Leno is headlining the Tennessee Theatre's Stars on Stage event in May.  I'm sure I'm not looking in the right spot on WBIR's site, but I fail to see that there.

I wonder if the story on the Pond Gap neighborhood's impact from Golf Range apartments closing is on there???

Link, I agree completely.  While I sometimes criticize certain things about the KNS but there's no other news source in town that provides the depth and variety of news coverage that the KNS does.

With the severe financial troubles and salary and benefit reductions, I don't know how the KNS could justify sending a photographer along with Fleser and Adams to N. Little Rock to cover the SEC Women's Tournament.  Wouldn't be surprised to see Griffin, Strange, Adams and a photographer going to Tampa for the men's tournament.  It's not surprising that Scripps' stock price has dropped from about $12 per share to 79 cents in the last year.

Well, here is my beef with the News-Sentinel:  I can pick up any copy of the N-S over the past few years and find a glaring grammar or spelling mistake.  This is a newspaper.  I should never find a mistake of the magnitude found on their pages.  If they don't care enough to read the damn thing, then neither do I.  Just watch the sports headlines.  There is a major error every week just in the headlines of the Sports section.  Another thing that gets me is all the references in the paper to get more information at the website.  Well Hell, if I'm going to the website, I'll just read the whole damn thing there.  I cancelled my weekend subscription a couple weeks ago when my delivery guy forgot to leave a Sunday paper.  They are incompetent.
