The statue is placed so that most of the time it will be open to the public but the gates can be closed if security becomes an issue *cough* Bama Week *cough*.  It's placement, IMHO, is even better than Charter and I envisioned as it is now the terminus of the Vol Walk. 

Now, if we can just get that gawdawful CHRISTMAS TREE off the top of the Ayres Hall bell tower and get the Torchbearer's hand straightened out ...

Ah well ...

bama people wouldnt mess with a statue of Neyland.....Fulmer might be a bit different
