It was just this time last year when anyone that said Chavis was just as good a DC in College as Monte got crucified.

It seems that Gus and TT lead the charge in these attacks.  I see that Gus still likes to talk about 3rd and Chavy.

It appears that like many people, time has taken it's toll on Monte.  He doesn't seem to have caught on to how to defend the varied offenses in College.

I believe that only OSVF, PV and DaVols can say I told you so.  The rest of us were too busy drinking the Kiffin Kool-Aid and thanking God we had Monte.  Here's a quick run down before I head to some tailgating and hell raising (might be a little overstated):

Monte vs. Auburn(Malzahn)  459 total yards
Monte Vs. Ole Miss              492 total yards

Chavis Vs. Auburn               193 total yards
Chavis Vs. Ole Miss              426 total yards

So it looks like the whole Kiffin family id Fool's Gold!

Look I liked the Kiffin hire until he hired Ogre. I did not like Ogre because he has a rep as a cheater and I did not want him to tarnish TN. Ogre may be a pervert, wifebeater, liar, cheat and a scoundrel but the guy is a topnotch DL coach and is as good as it gets. I had a lot of access last year and saw many of the practices. I told you then that Monte seemed confused and that Lance was your defacto DC as far as organization, chain of command etc. Understand this that old cradle robber would get in the trenches and teach position as well as anybody I ever saw over at UT. Someone in the UTAD told me he broke down all the film and developed scheme for the defense and with Chaney as far as the offense. He has a rep as the best film man in the business. I compare his role on the staff with that of Brown for the lady Vols. He worked on one on one stuff and saw mismatches and worked with the players on the sidelines.

I posted this stuff and was told I was a Fulmerite, at that point I threw my hands up and understood that the lot of these 's here at SPS had their nose up the Kiffin and hated Fulmer more than they ever loved UT... Kiffin was a smartass and that is what you folks wanted. One line zingers and  youth...

dangervol, are you serious?  Do you really think Monte had LSU type of talent to work with last year?  Monte got about as much out of that unit last year as possible.  The D held up their end of the deal and actually had UT in the game in the 4th qtr at Florida and Alabama.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge at USC either.  This USC defense isn't near as talented as in past years.  FWIW, USC's defense sucked out loud last year too.  Its never a good thing when Stanford hangs half a hundred on you.

UT has employed tons of assistants over the years with reps as cheaters.

PV one season with somebody else's players from another system is not enough of a sample of size for comparison. He did hold UF and Bama to 35 points last year though. That was a big improvement over 3rd and Chavis.

Speaking of 3rd and Chavis......it was in mid-season form tonight. I'm glad it is LSU's problem now.

Yup, ol Plumbers favorite coach, 3rd and Chavis was on top of his game tonight... Plumber likes to drop to his knees and swallow whenever Chavis walks by but anyone who saw that display tonight would NEVER, EVER, in a million years try to carry water for that POS coach. I agree with Shoneys 100%...I have never been so glad to see another coach on the other sideline as I am Chavey-wavy. UNC QB threw for over 400 phuckin yards and with the game on the line Chavis had his DB's lined up 10-15 yards off the WR's. I know Plumber had to love that 97 yard TD pass on 3rd and long... Yup, he sure is a great DC...   He NEVER, not ONE time, put a defender on the TE's nose. The guy had as very easy time running at will off the line of scrimmage and not ONE freakin adjustment. The last play was pass interference and with a decent throw, the TE would of made the play and Chavis hasn't yet had anyone who would cover the TE even though everyone in the stadium knew they were going to throw to him. I am so glad he is LSU's problem now.    Hell, as bad as Simms looked tonight, he will probabaly throw for 300+ yards against LSU and 3rd and Chavis.

Every stat dealing with the defensive side of the ball fell last year, but apparently the level of talent was higher!!

We will know nothing until after next week.

Did I miss something or did LSU win that game? I suppose now that the General meets us at the West end of the stadium we now need a statue of the "Living Fan" throwing dirt balls and rotten eggs at Fulmer to complete the circle. Maybe the living fan could be represented by JC in his Rebel shirt, Bamafever in his Bama thong, and Basilio in a Penn St shirt with a Pulp Fiction leather mask over his head.... I know that would fire me up......

Yup, LSU won the game but it certainly wasnt because of their defense. I have NEVER said that the old man Kiffy was a great DC but I have said over and over that Chavis was a terrible DC. You and Duh LOVE those stats to prop up a broken down old coach. Since you are so in love with stats, please explain the 3rd and long stat that Chavis has no clue how to defend when holding as lead. This should be interesting...

How bout those 400+ yards you hero allowed against a lower level ACC offense that was without half of its starters. I have come to the conclusion that you are incapable of looking at a Chavis coached defense without having your love for him clouding your feeble mind. LSU fans would love to give him back to you so you can fondle him like old times.

RT, I disagree with your assessment of Chavis  .   He is a great DC except for:

--the last drive of each half
--when his team gets a lead of 10+ points
--3rd down and 10 or more yds
--the 4th quarter
--when the game is on the line
--games against teams that run the option
--games against teams that have a tight end
--games against teams that can pass the ball

Other than those situations, Chavis is a great defensive coordinator.
